THE ASSOCIATION entrusts TWO SPECIALIZED JURISTS with a mission of analyzing the ENVIRONMENTAL CODE of St Barthélemy

Regularly confronted with its regulations (and sometimes the absence of regulations …), the association wanted to make a comprehensive review of the Environmental Code fo St Barthélemy, five years after its adoption. What are its characteristics, strengths and weaknesses? Is it well adapted to Saint-Barthélemy, to the needs of its inhabitants and to the imperatives of protection of the environment? Should the code evolve? These questions will be answered by Chantal Cans and Thierry Touret, two jurists specialized in environmental and urbanism law who have been entrusted by the association to carry out a first analysis of the code.

In order to better understand the particularities of Saint-Barth and the expectations of the population in terms of environmental preservation, Chantal Cans and Thierry Touret were in Saint-Barthélemy from September 19th to October 3rd where they met key players involved in environnmental issues as well as representatives of civil society.
They also animated a public conference on the theme ” Environmental law in St. Barthelemy: what for? How to do it? “.
