FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE SARGASSES’ PHENOMENON

Totally exceptional a few years ago, massive strandings of Sargassum algae have become seasonal and now regularly invade the West Indian coast. To improve the understanding of the phenomenon and investigate the best ways to approach it, we held a conference involving two scientists of the UAG, as well as the inventor of a solar pyrolysis technique to re-use the sargasses for energy production :

  1. Dr. Sarra Gaspard is a professor iogthe Department of Chemistry at the University of the West Indies and Guyana (UAG) and Deputy Director of the COVACHIM M2E laboratory.
  2. Ted Soubdhan is a PhD in Energetics, assistant lecturer at UAG
  3. Franck St Martin is president of the Num-STO company which develops a technology of valorization of sargasses by solar pyrolysis for energy production
