Our first book “PLANTES UTILITAIRES DE SAINT-BARTHÉLEMY” still on sale

Co-written by our president Hélène Bernier, botanist Claude Sastre, and senator Michel Magras, the book “Useful Plants of Saint Barthélemy,” comprises the plants used in the past by residents as part of the island’s daily existence. The first book (french language) published by the association, it is also one of the first projects based on the floral inventory of Saint Barthélemy that we started in 2011.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Our president Hélène Bernier focuses on the defense of cultural and natural heritage of St. Barth which she is a native. In 2009, in order to optimize her action, she created the association St Barth Essentiel that publishes this book devoted to useful plants of St. Barth.

Former professor of Science and Life, Michel Magras is passionate about botany and author of two books dedicated to the flora and fishes of St. Barth which he is native. Today vice president of the Collectivité and St Barth's senator, he contributed to this joint work giving a part of  the 10 000 photos composing his collection of St Barth's flora.

Claude Sastre is a former and still honorary professor at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris . Botanist recognized, he's a specialist of Caribbean and Guyanese  Flora that he's studying it since 1968. Co-author of this book, Claude Sastre is also in charge of the floristic inventory of the Saint-Barth Fauna and Flora led by the association.
